On July 19, 2025, the Tigray Health Research Institute (THRI) in Mekelle inaugurated the small-scale production of Fewsi Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF), a vital intervention for children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM). Developed primarily from indigenous ingredients, Fewsi RUTF ensures nutritional adequacy while supporting the local agricultural economy.

This initiative, funded by the Fewsi Foundation and implemented in partnership with THRI, Mekelle University, and the Tigray Health Bureau. Future plans include expanding the program to address moderate acute malnutrition (MAM), creating a comprehensive continuum of nutritional care to enhance child health resilience in the region. The launch gathered key regional stakeholders who reaffirmed their commitment to scaling Fewsi RUTF. We invite partners and communities to actively support this essential effort to reduce child malnutrition in Tigray
