The 10th International Congress “Skin on the move” Research review on Health Situation of Tigray was held in Mekelle.

The Tigray Health Research Institute, Tigray Health Bureau, and ISMAS jointly conducted the tenth international Congress research review of Health situation of Tigray from April 2-4 ,2025 in Tigray, Mekelle Planet Hotel.


Due to the war, the resulting casualties and deaths among health professionals, and the psychological trauma, there has been a significant increase in health problems in Tigray; their solutions and the nature and types of diseases are being closely examined.

The head of the Tigray Health Bureau, Dr. Amanuel Haile, explained that the research studies that investigate the current state of the Tigray health system. He stated that this forum provides a platform for solutions supported by research, enabling researchers to share experiences. He added that research conducted so far has been contributing to practical work. He also highlighted that the results show the significant role of research-based work will achieve better understanding.

Dr. Hayelom Kahsay, director general Tigray Health Research Institute, explained that for the past 10 years, research focusing on the Tigray health system has been presented, and this research has served as the foundation for improving the health sector of Tigray. He emphasized that the research conducted has been translated into action. Furthermore, he indicated that this research is instrumental in solving health problems.

Professor Aldo Morrone, a coordinator of the team and he is from the International Institute of Social Sciences and Medical Anthropology in Italy, stated that resolving the health problems of Tigray requires thorough examination of research, going beyond mere publication of research papers.

More than 20 research papers were presented on this event. Health research is crucial for advancing knowledge, developing effective treatments, improving healthcare, and ultimately, enhancing human health and well-being.
