Tigray Health Research institute in collaboration with Ethiopian Public Health Institute is giving training about the baseline survey for data collectors, supervisors and team leaders Dec10, 2016 E.C in Zemariyas Hotel, Mekelle.
Dr. Masresha Tessema EPHI’s Food Science and Nutrition Research Directorate Director indicated by zoom meeting that, the survey will conduct Food and Nutrition Strategy Baseline Survey in Tigray Region which will help the region to design various kinds of nutrition interventions and the survey is financially supported by BMGF and UNICEF. We are working together with THRI to finish the training and survey based on the schedule.
Dr. Hayelom Kahsay, Director General of Tigray Health Research Institute (THRI) while officially opening the training indicated that throughout this training program, “the trainees will have the chance to acquire essential skills and knowledge in core points in the base line survey. you will engage in critical areas that will empower you to address complex emergency situations with confidence and expertise,” In addition he explained the main aim of this research project are…
# To assess the nutrition specific and nutrition sensitive interventions ( safety net program,vaccination , agricultural practice,WASH and supplementation programs)
# To assess the anthropometric status of under 5 and school age children , adolescent girls.
# To assess Household food insecurity
#IYCF practice
#micro nutrient status (folate,zink,selenium,vitamin A, iron, iodine and vitamine B12) and
#Geographical distribution of soil micro elements status in agricultural soil.
Professor Afework the lead researcher and associate staff of tigray health research institute in his part said this research project is very important to the region to develop different guidelines and interventions, hence, advice the data collectors to bring the right data from the community .
